A Florence woman was arrested Sunday following her indictment for chemical endangerment of a child. Sgt. Cliff Billingsley of Florence police said Chaunquonecia Vasjhaud Smith, 23, of Florence, was indicted by a Lauderdale County grand jury. The charge stems from an incident that happened in January of 2021. Officers were notified that a baby had been delivered deceased at the North Alabama Medical Center. According to Billingsley, the mother, Smith, tested positive for THC. The baby was sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Science for an autopsy.
