The Chicago White Sox selected LSU pitcher Grant Taylor with the 51st choice in the MLB First-Year Player Draft on Sunday night in Seattle. Taken in the second round, Taylor became the first player from an Alabama high school or college selected in this year's draft. Taylor was the Alabama Sports Writers Association Class 7A Player of the Year for Florence High School in 2021, when he posted a 7-0 record with a 2.25 earned-run average and 127 strikeouts in 64.2 innings. The White Sox chose Taylor even though he missed the 2023 season because of an elbow injury.
